From my experience from working with Nathan he was extremely diligent, hardworking, knowledgeable and relatable. Having spent a large amount of time working closely with him coming back from long term injury he was an integral part of both my conditioning and strength work which enabled me to get back to my best

Nathan challenged us physically and mentally to limits that we never knew existed as new comers to the Victorian Institute of Sport women’s hockey program. He did so in a supportive and nurturing environment.

I am grateful to have begun my VIS journey under the guidance of Nathan as he taught me many lessons and foundations that will stick with me throughout my career

WHY TCC?

Background & Experience

Nathan Heaney is an experienced Strength and Conditioning Coach, lecturer, sports performance specialist and highly sought after sports performance mentor and consultant.

Nathan has acquired over 15 years of strength and conditioning, sport science and sports performance experience working with revered and highly reputable sporting organisations, such as the Victorian Institute of Sport, AFL Victoria, Adelaide Crows, Australian Strength and Conditioning Association, Australia Catholic University and more recently, Xavier College.

During his tenure at these organisations and clubs, Nathan has had the privilege to work with a wide variety of athletes across a broad spectrum of training ages and abilities. Stemming from the breadth of his strength and conditioning experience, Nathan is equally adept at working with elite athletes as he is younger developmental athletes and members of the general public.

Conditioning Research

Upon completing his Bachelor of Exercise Science Degree, Nathan undertook an Honours Thesis which investigated the efficacy of the YOYO Intermittent Recovery Test – Level 1 to assess aerobic fitness and determine maximal aerobic speed in team sport athletes. This process piqued Nathan’s interest in the application of aerobic and anaerobic conditioning for both team sport and endurance athletes competing across the sporting and physiological spectrum. Following the completion of the thesis, Nathan has continued to research, investigate, trial, and practically apply a multitude of conditioning methods with team sport and endurance athletes.

Nathan’s conditioning research, analysis and practical application has proven to be incredibly effective at improving sport performance, aerobic fitness, and anaerobic capacity, whilst also mitigating injury risk. As such, Nathan’s industry leading research has been extremely valuable for strength and conditioning coaches and sports performance consultants as they look to upskill their own strength and conditioning knowledge and improve the physical, physiological, and tactical outcomes of their sports and/or athletes. Nathan is regularly engaged to present, review and consult on the application of conditioning programs with elite sporting teams and high-performance organisations.Read More
